20-year-old escapes speeding ticket of 445,000 kroner

A Romanian driver has been flashed by the same speed camera 61 times. Yet he escapes a total speeding ticket of 445,000 kroner.

A Romanian man escaped a significant speeding ticket of 445,000 Norwegian kroner. An amount equivalent to 285,000 Danish kroner.

In court, the young Romanian explained that he drives as he is used to from home. And that was enough for the court to tear the ticket in half. However, that does not mean the man will escape punishment.

In Norway, the 20-year-old man has no idea what the speed limits are. He has been caught speeding by the same speed camera 61 times in a four-month period.

The 20-year-old has received a different punishment, however. He has been sentenced to 30 days in prison for his repeated violations.

Speed cameras documented the 20-year-old's many instances of speeding around Bergen. But the vast majority of times he was speeding through a specific tunnel – the Floyfjell Tunnel.

Escapes gigantic speeding ticket but is no longer allowed to drive

Here, the man was at one point measured at a speed of 136 kilometers per hour, writes Norwegian Motor .

In court, the man explained that he is used to following completely different traffic rules and speed limits back home in Romania.

– In Romania we drive differently. There are different speed limits there than here, he explained through his defense attorney.

The man, who came to Norway last fall, pleaded guilty and admitted that he is not always aware of his speed.

He also confirmed that the speed measurements the police have on him are correct. He believes that he does not think about how fast he is driving.

"I didn't necessarily think about pressing the accelerator. But I have no doubt that the speed measurements are correct," the man said in court.

In addition to the prison sentence, the man has been disqualified from driving for 17 months. But he will not be charged with a high speeding ticket.
