Smartphone makers Xiaomi, which wants to beat Tesla, now claim that 50,000 people have ordered their first car in less than half an hour.
Xiaomi wants something and more than smartphones. When it comes to consumer electronics, the next step for the Chinese is to equip it with wheels.
The model SU7, which the world-renowned BMW designer Chris Bangle has been involved in developing, is priced in China from the equivalent of 207,000 Danish kroner.
And this is something the Chinese will ask for. In fact, Xiaomi claims to have received 50,000 SU7 orders in just 27 minutes.
The BBC writes that.

According to the research firm Counterpoint, Xiaomi has a good 12 percent of the world's smartphone market. This corresponds to the fact that the Chinese are the world's third largest producer in that particular industry.
Back to the cars, Tesla's currently cheapest model – Model 3 – starts at around DKK 235,000 on the Chinese market. So there is some way down to the level of the Chinese.
Should things go well for Xiaomi, it will be a completely different story than what is generally happening right now with Chinese cars. At least in Europe.
