Water-damaged Ford avoids scrapping – donated to technical school

A water-damaged Ford Mustang bypasses the wrecker and goes straight to a technical school in Michigan, USA.

Unfortunately, it happens at regular intervals that nature wins over cars to such an extent that they have to be declared totally damaged and unfit to ever get back on the roads again.

But instead of just scrapping the cars, car brands in the US have started buying back some of the cars to donate to technical schools around the country.

One of the car brands that has already jumped on board with the idea is Ford. For the same reason, the mechanic line at Davison Alternative Education High School in Michigan has just been delivered a Ford Mustang.

The car, which Ford has freshened up a bit after water damage, will teach the students about the technology in modern cars. The car brand also donates SUVs and pickup models to technical schools.

– We have dealers all over the country who are ready to take the cars, dry them and clean them up in order to send the cars on to the schools. Since September, we have donated more than 300 choir uniforms nationwide, says Ford's Mike McLean in a comment to the Detroit Free Press

And they are not alone in this. Both Stellantis and General Motors confirm, according to Carscoop, that the group's brands send cars that otherwise have no hope for public roads to technical schools.

It is not the first time that stories of cars being given a new lease of life at technical schools have surfaced. For example, many years ago a teacher at just such an educational institution managed to save a rare 'Opel' from scrapping by hiding the car at the school. The car otherwise only has a short two kilometres. Read more about it here .
