Volvo Cars is apparently so afraid of the EU's announced tariff increases that the car brand is moving the production of several electric cars out of China.
The EU has probably decided nothing more than postponing a decision on increased tariffs on Chinese electric cars until after the EU elections.
But now we are on the other side of it. And Volvo Cars is still scared. That is, for the increased tariffs.
The Times writes that.
Therefore, the production of the EX30 and EX90 models destined for Europe is stopped on the car brand's assembly line in China. They are moved instead to the brand's factory in Ghent, Belgium.

In this way, Volvo is keeping its fingers crossed that the increased customs duty announced by the EU can be avoided. In front of The Times, the car brand itself is not very particular about a possible move to Belgium.
– The decision to also build the EX30 in Ghent reflects our ambition to build our cars where we sell them, reads a written response to the media.
However, it is Volvo itself that has previously announced that there is actually extra production capacity at the factory in Ghent. Funnily enough, a city where a lot is done to keep cars out by converting most roads into pedestrian streets or cycle paths.
Having said that, Volvo may soon find itself in a situation where the car brand is the only one of its kind in Belgium. The other brand is Audi.
But the Germans only produce one car in Belgium. And the interest in it among car buyers may lie in such a small place that Audi has had to fire people for the first time in the factory's history.
In order not to risk a total shutdown of the factory, located on the outskirts of Brussels, the country's government is trying to make the brand stay.Read more about it here .
