Tesla admits weakness – motorist gets DKK 30,000 in compensation

Tesla's cameras are so bad that the cars think they are going wrong. Now Tesla, which believes the owners need to get out of the cars, has lost a Norwegian court case.

Tesla has made a big deal out of telling both customers and the rest of the world that the car brand can manage without sensors for e.g. parking. It all takes place with cameras instead.

But now a court in Norway has given a Tesla owner the right that Tesla's cameras are too poor. Therefore, the car brand must cough up a compensation of NOK 30,000.

This is written by Norwegian Motor .

The amount, which corresponds to a little over 20,000 Danish kroner, Tesla must get rid of, because the owner was able to document in court how the cameras make the car think that it is on its way to an accident when it stops on a lawn.

However, the cameras did not warn the driver because he hit some tires he had left in his garage. Emil Svenrup, who is technical director of Tesla in Norway, acknowledges that the car brand's release is not flawless.

Tesla says instead that they will work on developing the camera system, but at the same time the owners have to get out of the cars to find their way around, says the technical director.

– You have to get out of the car to make sure there are no obstacles before driving on, says Emil Svenrup according to Motor.

In the trial, Tesla's lawyer also claimed that the car brand's use of cameras instead of parking sensors gives a more detailed 'picture'.

But it helped just a little. And now Tesla must cough up compensation for the car owners, who would actually rather have the purchase of the car cancelled. It is not yet known whether Tesla will appeal the verdict to the High Court.

Tesla's cars have not had parking sensors since the brand decided to replace them with cameras ahead of the launch of the latest Model 3 in 2022.
