From next year, the police and all other public bodies in Sweden may only buy hybrid or pure electric cars. And already in 2026, nothing but electric cars may be bought.
In 2019, Sweden's then Prime Minister Stefan Löfven said that the country would ban all new diesel and petrol cars by 2030.
But as early as 2026, the country's police must take the first step. On 1 January that year, it will be forbidden for the Police to buy anything other than new electric cars.
But already from 1 January 2025, the Swedish police must completely disregard pure petrol and diesel cars. Pure electric or hybrid cars must be chosen, because the latter will also be banned in 2026.
