Electric cars plunge again – falling by 16 percent in Germany

Sales of electric cars in Germany are down for the sixth month in a row. Tesla is faring the absolute worst with a 42 percent drop.

Another month has passed, and once again it's going backwards for electric cars in Europe's largest car market.

The Germans are turning their backs on the car type, and this can be seen in the sales figures, which compared to June 2023 have plunged by as much as 16 percent.

This is shown by figures from the German response to the Swedish Transport Agency, KBA.

However, these are small things compared to the month of January, when sales fell by more than half. Read more about it here. And it's actually also peanuts compared to Tesla's loss.

Between January and June, the American brand has lost as much as 42 percent of sales from last year. In the month of June alone, the car brand went back by 42.2 percent, so that there were 'only' 4,648 new Teslas on German roads last month.

That's fewer cars than even Chinese MG sold. Conversely, the Chinese do not only sell the electric cars to the Germans. However, Tesla's decline does not mean that Germans are not buying cars.

Because they do. By percentage, BYD has made the most progress. And although the number of cars is actually not impressive. However, 1,202 cars are enough for an increase of 427 percent compared to the same period in 2023.

In comparison, despite sales of 114,690 cars, BMW advances by just 2.7 percent, while Mercedes falls by more than 12 percent. And Audi has to take a hit of minus 17 percent in the same period.

It is worth noting that Fisker Inc., which these days is teetering on the brink of definitive bankruptcy, sold 129 cars to the Germans.

For the 129 Germans – and other Fisker owners in general – there may have been a glimmer of hope in the fact that an American company has now bought over 3,000 Fisker Oceans at once. Read more about it here .
