Motorists are becoming less interested in electric cars. This is what Mercedes' chief executive, who once again postponed the brand's goal of electric cars, expects now.
Mercedes is once again downgrading its expectations for the electric car. The brand's CEO Ola Källenius made that clear this week.
Interest in electric cars will decrease, believes Källenius, who said on Thursday that the brand expects to earn less this year than in 2023. Partly because motorists will buy fewer electric cars.
Furthermore, the Mercedes CEO made it clear that it will take years for electric cars to compete with petrol and diesel cars on price.
Källenius told the financial media Bloomberg .

Mercedes benefited for a time from high demand for electric cars. But because high borrowing and living costs generally slow down consumption, Mercedes sees the same thing happening with the demand for electric cars.
Bloomberg expects that the number of electric cars will increase this year. But at a level that has not been seen to slow down since 2019.
And at Mercedes, they are preparing for the consequences. Now it is no longer stated that the Germans expect half of all new Mercedes models to run on electricity in 2035. Mercedes believed that for a long time, could be done as early as next year.
With Ola Källenius at the helm, Mercedes are not the only ones who have recently found reverse gear when it comes to electric cars.
So does the Hyundai Group. At least when it comes to the expensive cars, which should be fully electrified already next year. Read more about it here .
