60 percent of drivers want a speed limiter in the car

Here at home it is already a reality. But only from July 2024, speed limiters will also be mandatory in the USA. However, the majority is not against it, research shows.

You can't turn it off.

At least not permanently. Since July 2022, car factories have been required to equip all future cars with a speed limiter. The so-called Intelligent Speed Adaptation (ISA) system.

And from July 2024 it must be in all new cars. Present as future. The system must be turned off manually each time you take a turn. Otherwise, the system warns you that you are driving as much as one km/h too fast.

And now a new survey shows that 60 percent of Americans think it's a good idea. The Americans will only begin phasing in the system, which has become permanent in the EU, from next month.

The 60 percent of Americans who have – 1,802 drivers were asked their opinion – do not mind being warned that they are driving too fast every time they start their cars.

Even more – namely 70 percent – said they would accept the system if it meant cheaper car insurance.

At home, new cars have already become a hell of alarms because of that ISA. However, the English are not to be trifled with. The country, which opted out of the EU in February 2020, has said no to this type of surveillance in new cars. Read more about it here .

For the rest of us – and therefore now also the Americans – Intelligent Speed Adaptation will become mandatory from 6 July 2024.
