Peugeot e-208 drops in price by 150,000 kroner

The electric Peugeot e-208 used to cost a fortune. But now Danish Wismo Group is reducing it by 150,000 kroner in Sweden. This comes after a price drop in Denmark.

Peugeot importer Wismo Group has lowered the price of the Peugeot e-208 by 150,000 Swedish kronor in Sweden. Or the equivalent of 104,000 Danish kronor.

The price in Denmark has not changed this time, and this means that the price of a Peugeot e-208 is lower here than in Sweden.

However, we don't have to go any further back than January to find the Danish price drop. More on that further down in this article.

The price drop comes after a miserable year for Peugeot on the other side of the Øresund. The importer failed to sell more than 274 electric cars. So now they are trying to empty their stocks with a slap on the price.

– We have received better prices from the factory. We have been in dialogue for a long time to get the price we want, and now we have it, the importer tells Elbilen .

The Danish price of the Peugeot e-208 already fell in January

– And we hope it will increase our electric car sales, says David Lindahl from Wismo Group to the magazine Elbilen in Sweden.

In addition to the Peugeot e-208, Peugeot has chosen to reduce the prices of two other electric car models. These are the E-3008 and E-5008 models, both of which have been reduced by over 100,000 Swedish kronor.

The price drop is probably due to new emission requirements from the EU. The rules mean that car brands must build far more electric cars than there is demand for. Otherwise, they risk going bankrupt.

The size of the fines depends on the average CO2 emissions of the model programs. Since January 1, the fine limit has been 96.3 grams of CO2 per kilometer. And the car manufacturers have a very hard time living up to that.

Only higher sales of electric cars will reduce the cars' CO2 footprint and thus reduce the risk of large fines. At least on paper. However, the EU has brought car brands into fashion a bit on that front. Read more about it here .

In Denmark, the price of the Peugeot e-208 was reduced in January. The reduction was 50,000 kroner.

With this price reduction, a Peugeot e-208 costs from 199,990 kroner in Denmark. That is 45,000 Danish kroner cheaper than the Swedish price, even after the new price.

A change in management at Peugeot may be a contributing factor to the price cut. The company's new CEO, Alain Favey, has a stated goal of increasing sales of electric cars.

The new CEO's objectives do not change the fact that the Stellantis group, of which Peugeot is a part, is having a hard time. Especially in Denmark, where sales of sister brands Citroën and Opel have shrunk by 95 percent.
