A future SUV from Mercedes will reportedly be based on a completely new platform – in return, the AMG department will provide a whopping 1,000 horsepower.
If you thought the race for the most horsepower had settled down, maybe it's time to think again.
Mercedes has given ample light to the fact that the in-house tuner AMG can develop a new electric SUV with a staggering 1,000 horsepower on the brand new AMG.EA platform.
That's what Autocar writes.
The car will compete with BMW's hybrid XM and Porsche's ditto. The latter is currently only known under the factory code name for it – namely K1.

The many horsepower that AMG is working to unleash on the tarmac is mainly due to the fact that Mercedes expects the weight of the car to be decisive. In other words, the upcoming SUV will be a heavy case.
If we are to compare with something that already exists, BMW's XM weighs a whopping 2,795 kilos. Autocar expects Mercedes-AMG to respond again with at least four electric motors.
Something the tuners are expected to be ready with a presentation already next year, when the production version will be ready is not yet known. But it is certain that the new SUV is the second car on the platform.
The first is an all-electric version of the GT 4-Door. Like that car, the new SUV will also be built at Mercedes' factory in the city of Sindelfingen, located in southern Germany.
While Mercedes and the other German brands continue to hold their cards close to their bodies when it comes to future projects, we already know that several car brands have found the reverse gear.
This is happening in connection with the roll-out of electric cars. Most recently, Aston Martin has announced that it is almost ready to build an electric car, but that the factory in Gaydon, England, is holding back.
According to board chairman Lawrence Stroll, the reason is not something to hide. Those who buy a new Aston Martin today are simply not interested in electric cars. Read more about it here .
