James May: No more car shows with us

The former Top Gear trio will not be making any more car shows together. James May now confirms that.

Former Top Gear trio James May, Richard Hammond and Jeremy Clarkson have been making car shows for TV and streaming services since 2003.

But it's over now. James May tells it. He does not believe that the trio, after their farewell to the Grand Tour last year, will be reunited. At least not about cars on TV.

– I think we should leave what we have done behind, he says in an interview to UniLad.

However, James May, who has turned 61 today, does not want to talk too much about his own retirement either.

Conversely, what will happen to The Grand Tour, which May, Hammond and Clarkson created after the latter's dismissal from the BBC program Top Gear, is still a big question mark.

We know this much that Amazon will not bury the program. In April it emerged that the production company Studio Lambert had won the bidding round for a relaunch of the programme.

However, those plans have not progressed further than that a possible new format of the Grand Tour has been given the green light. At the same time, there is nothing new from the BBC about Top Gear.

– The Grand Tour is one of Prime Video's most watched programmes. Jeremy, James and Richard have a devoted following.

– But they have also made no secret of the fact that they are getting older and that they have a lot of other projects lying around, a source with 'knowledge of Amazon's plans' said in April, according to The Sun newspaper.

Conversely, the final car program with James May, Richard Hammond and Jeremy Clarkson has not actually been announced yet. One more so-called 'special' is missing. It was shot in Zimbabwe and will premiere next year.
