Controversial repair shop chain loses 12 million

Skorstensgaard, which has been in the media spotlight for suspicious business practices on several occasions, has been in deficit for the fourth year in a row. Last year, it was 12 million kroner short.

For the fourth year in a row, Skorstensgaard is seeing a mess on its bottom line. The accounts reveal that in 2024 there was a shortage of a full 12 million kroner.

The company, which operates 23 workshops and employs 180 people, however, explains the deficit with a number of investments in the company.

It was not enough that the Danish car importer Nic. Christiansen bought 61 percent of the control of Skorstensgaard in March 2023.

Overall, the chain has lost a total of 68 million kroner in just four years, according to the latest accounts. The chain, which was founded in 2009, has since acquired Chinese BYDs, imported by Nic. Christiansen, so that it can now call itself a brand-name workshop.

However, BYD is not selling very well in Denmark. The latest figures from March 2025 show that BYD is not yet in the top 10 when it comes to registrations.

380 registrations are only enough for 2.5 percent of the market in March. Conversely, this is 0.9 percent better than the same period last year.

Back at Skorstensgaard, the 12 million in deficit is somewhat better than what they dragged themselves out of 2021. Here, 16 million kroner was missing from the bottom line.

At the time, the corona pandemic and 'less traffic on the roads' were blamed for the miserable financial results.

However, there were also costs for a lawsuit against De Danske Bilimportorer (now Mobility Denmark, ed.), which both parties claim to have won, that pulled teeth that year.

The workshop chain, headquartered in Koling, has also made significant cuts. As recently as December 2023, according to BDO, there were 229 employees nationwide. Now there are 180 left.

Even before that, the repair shop chain found itself in deep water when, in DR's consumer program, they had to defend some, to say the least, questionable 'German repair shop prices'.

Just as one had to defend why it was necessary to look into the future for customers.See the program here .

However, DR has since been criticized for that particular program by the Danish Press Board after a complaint from the workshop chain's founders. Read more here .
