8 drivers lose their driver's license for gross everyday mistakes

In one week, 8 drivers have been sentenced for not fitting the safety wire correctly between the trailer and the car. This kind of offense costs more than 'just' DKK 2,500 in fines.

In just one week, 8 drivers on the Copenhagen west sign have been sentenced for not knowing how to drive a trailer in Denmark.

This is written by bygtek.dk .

All of the convicted drivers did not know how to tighten the safety wire between the car and the trailer. Anyway, the safety wire was 'forgotten'.

And if the police see this sort of thing, you don't just get away with a fine of 2,500 and a cut in your choir card. Instead, the police are up to a conditional disqualification for three years and an indicative choir rehearsal.

Without the safety wire, the overrun brake is not activated on the trailer. In other words, the trailer does not stop if the accident is out.

And the installation of the wire must be exactly by the book. This was learned by a 27-year-old man who had installed the wire. But because it was sitting incorrectly, the trailer skidded across the motorway, because it ended up in the guardrail.

The rules are screwed up so that the trailer with a total weight of more than 750 kilos must be connected to the car with a safety wire. That mistake has now cost 8 motorists the traffic ticket, while a 9th is awaiting his verdict in a similar case.

It is not the first time that the police and the legal system have cracked down on 'everyday mistakes'. Back in 2022, a then 49-year-old woman had to hand in her choir card because of a 0.01 second difference. Read more about that case here .
